Featured Artist of the Month

Magdaliz Roura

It’s been a while since we had a featured artist of the month. We thought it’d be fitting to present Magdaliz Roura, who volunteered her time to play and speak to our May Tertulia audience on her experiences and motivations as an artist.

Born and and raised in Puerto Rico, Magdaliz showed a talent for music from an early age by singing, playing instruments by ear, and improvising. She has performed with many and varied musical ensembles, and choirs, in Puerto Rico and the USA.

In 1997 she co-founded the Latin ensemble Crisol, dedicated to the interpretation of a variety of folk and traditional music genres from all over Latin America and the Caribbean. They released their first album in 2002: Songs from the New World. In 2005 Magdaliz became Crisol’s sole leader and manager. Since then she has been performing as a soloist, duo, trio, and many other configurations depending on the performance’s requirements.

On Friday, June 14th, at 6:00pm, Magdaliz & Her Latin Ensemble Crisol will be performing at the Barnes Foundation. For more upcoming events, visit her website.
